Jamorama Review

Jamorama - The Ultimate Beginning Guitar Learning Kit

My Rating:

Price: $39.95

(At the time of this review)

If you are anything like me and always wanted to learn how to play popular tunes on your guitar both for yourself and maybe to impress those around you (even just a little), this course on beginning guitar really CAN do the trick!

I'm not sure if you have noticed, but neither one of the products I'm reviewing received a full 5 out of 5 stars. To me that would mean that one, or both of these courses are perfect. Well, although I am really happy with both of them, I wouldn't call either one of them perfect.

When reviewing the Jamorama program, I gave it a 4.5 Stars our of 5 total. While not completely perfect, it is a pretty complete package. Ben really put everything he had into this product... and it shows. In addition to the quality information in the glossy two book series, the team at Jamorama has spent 1,000s of hours developing 148 video examples and exercises so the student can hear and see exactly what they should be doing.

The Jamorama team have also included two educational computer games to develop your skills in reading and training your ear to transcribe music. They also included the pro version of Jayde Musica and GuitEarIt! as free bonuses that give the student the ability to train their ear to recognize notes and transcribe songs from the radio. Both of these programs are very well made and presented, and most of all are easy and fun to play.

I really enjoyed both the Jayde Musica and GuitEarIt software games. They really helped me learn how to read music and pick up the notes and chords by ear. I'm still not very good with playing by ear, but I think GuitEarIt is the reason I can do it at all!

Things I didn't like all that much:

While you can see from the rating I game Jamorama, overall I really liked the guitar learning course. However, there were still a few things about the program that I really didn't like all that much.

  • First of all is the name... I realize that in marketing products you want to come up with a name that is catchy and memorable, but Jamorama just sounds a little cheesy to me. I almost didn't try the course because of the name, BUT I am really glad I did!
  • Secondly, while there is a forum for members and you can email to have questions answered there seems like a little bit of a disconnect in communications.
  • I think the lessons could be a little longer. They are broken up in units that don't overwhelm the student, but I think they could be a little longer.
Things I really liked:
  • All of the audio and video clips that I could actually see and hear what it should sound like
  • "Jam" tracks. I liked playing with the background tracks. It sounds good and it builds my confidence to play along with something.
  • I loved all the bonus software. They really enhanced the learning experience!
  • The Price! At $39.95, it was easy on my wallet. Now that I bought it, I would say that it is worth quite a bit more than what I paid but it was really hard to know that before I actually bought and used it.
  • One other extra feature that I really liked is the Metronome software. When learning how to play it is really easy to ignore the correct rhythm, the metronome is extremely helpful to keep the beat.
